Lewis Carroll (1832-1898) was a British author, mathematician, and logician. He is best known for his book Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland, first published in 1865. He is also known for his word games, including a game called Word Ladders, which was originally called Doublets.

This app combines some elements of Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland and the original game of Doublets. The objective of the game is to lead Alice through Wonderland to the Queen of Hearts, and eventually back home. Along the way, you will meet some familiar characters, such as the Cheshire Cat, the March Hare, and the Mad Hatter.

Each character will ask you to perform a seemingly impossible task. To be successful, you will have to create a chain of words. Each word must be found in the dictionary (no proper nouns allowed!) and differs by one letter from the previous word. For example, you might be asked to change a cat to a dog. To do this, you form the chain of words

cat => bat => bag => bog => dog

There are many ways you can form chains, but the maximum number of words in the chain is 15. The game gets progressively harder as Alice gets closer to home. Come on and play - see if you can defeat the Queen of Hearts to get Alice back home.
